Proverbial is a great tool to obtain the equivalent proverbs in English or Spanish with your iPhone or iPod.

MAIN FEATURES

* Work offline due to its embedded database containing more than 3,400 records in English and above 1,400 in Spanish.

* Search by free text, categories and random.

* Bookmark your favourite proverbs.

NOTICE

* You should bear in mind that not all proverbs have their “identical” equivalent in the other language (as it is the case with “The more the merrier”/ “Cuantos más, mejor”). There are also some proverbs with the same meaning in both languages and similar forms
( “All cats are grey in the dark”/”De noche todos los gastos son pardos”). We also find proverbs with the same meaning, but totally different forms in both languages (“A burnt child dreads the fire”/”Gato escaldado, del agua fría huye”). Finally, there are proverbs with no corresponding proverbs in the other language. For this difficult, yet interesting category (as it is the case with “De perdidos, al río”) Proverbial offers you not only equivalents in the other language (”In for a penny, in for a pound”), but also idiomatic ways of expressing the same idea (“To make the best of a bad situation”). It goes without saying that it is for the user to judge which option is more adequate, depending on the different contexts.

In any case, if you already have a good knowledge of Spanish, Proverbial is the perfect tool to refine it even further, since it gives you access to idiomatic proverbs and equivalent expressions. We hope that you find useful this gate into the world of proverbs and that it helps you enjoy playing with the language.

* I have collected these proverbs and their equivalents, without bearing in mind whether they are politically correct or not.
Like in any other dictionary or glossary, it is of course up to the user to use them or not.
